And welcome back to in-person learning! I am so excited to be your ELA teacher this year. I love language and literature, and the power words can give. I hope to share that love and power with you this year. Some questions to ponder this year...
What is the purpose of language?
Why do we read literature?
How can we use writing?
Who makes the rules, and why?
All I ask is that you do your best to learn together, explore the answers to those questions, and hone your ELA skills in reading, writing, speaking, listening, and critical thinking, so that you are prepared for the challenges of high school and beyond!
Need to discuss my feedback on some of your writing? Chat about your grades? Or just have a philosophical discussion? Come to my office hours:

This year is divided into four units of study. Each unit will provide you an opportunity to read mentor texts, discuss important issues, and create, present, or share original pieces of writing or research.
There’s also a reading challenge for you to complete!
Over the course of this year, your challenge will be to read at least 20 books of your choosing. That means it can be fiction, non-fiction, a graphic novel, or even an audiobook (yes, listening to books counts!). That's about one book every two weeks.
