Biography and Philosophy

Biography

After high school I took my passion  of science and education and attended Minnesota State University, Mankato in the fall of 2003. During the four years of my enrollment I earned a Bachelors of Science degree in Life Science Education and a minor in Biology. After college, I returned to Dover and in the fall I married my lifelong friend and we started our family in the small community we call home. During that same fall I found my first teaching experience as a science teacher at Rochester Off Campus Charter School. ROC had been my home for seven years. During those seven years our family had expanded, in 2011 we had our daughter, Addisyn, and in 2014 we had our son, Joel. As a family we love to spend time outdoors, visiting our cabin, and spending time with friends. In the fall of 2014, I opted to try a new experience as a high school Biology and Chemistry teacher for Winona Area Public Schools. During that time I finished my Master's degree in Chemistry Education. After my year in Winona, I found an exiting opportunity to teach chemistry for Stewartville Public Schools. I am excited to me part of a wonderful community here at Stewartville Public Schools. I look forward to sharing my passion of science with all the great students of this community!

Philosophy

As a teacher there are many valuable skills and qualities that I try to teach to my students. Four that I find the most important are: building relationships, engaging students in their learning, challenging students in their learning, and creating life-long learners. If I accomplish these things I feel like I have done my job as their teacher!

I love teaching because each and every day I get to share my passion in life! As a teacher I hope to inspire my students into sharing my passion of science and learning. I not only want to teach the importance of science, but also of learning in general. I want my students to take life-long lessons from my classroom and apply them to their own lives outside of the classroom. I want to make learning fun and exciting so they are will to actively participate and find the value in all that we do. I strive to build attributes that will help make each student successful both inside and outside of the classroom.
