Zumbro Education District (ZED) Student Enrichment Activities

The Zumbro Education District (ZED) sponsors a wide variety of enrichment programs and competitions for its students. These activities are for students in Blooming Prairie, Byron, Hayfield, Kasson-Mantorville, Pine Island, Stewartville, and Triton.

Creative Writing Contest

The annual Creative Writing Contest is open for all students in grades 5 through 12. Each fall, a new topic is chosen; the topic for Fall 2021 is "Tell a story from a pet's perspective" (Write a story about a day in the life of a pet you have, a pet you have had in the past, or a pet you would like to have.) They may enter in the prose or poetry division.

Choral Festival

High school choirs from the seven ZED school districts meet in one of the selected schools. Each choir performs individually and then combine in one mass choir for the finale.

The 2021 Choral Festival is cancelled this year.

Academic Triathlon

Academic Triathlon is available for students in grades 6, 7 and 8. This program is designed to develop creativity, in crease knowledge, and build divergent thinking skills, logic, problem-solving abilities, and team cooperation. Teams are comprised of five student members, plus alternatives. Three events comprise an AT meet, with all members participating in every event. Competition dates occur monthly, December through February. Contact Stewartville's head coach, or for more information.

Traveling Art Show

The ZED Traveling Art Show is open to all grade levels with a wide variety of media being used. The show travels between districts from February through mid-April. It is in each location for approximately one week.

The Traveling Art Show is in Stewartville on in the MS/HS Media Center.

Science Fair

The ZED Science Fair is open to all students in grades 4 and 5. Each student will follow the Stewartville School District's guidelines for participation. Only individual projects are allowed in the ZED Science Fair. Teachers coordinating the science fair is Mrs. Aimee Johnson, Mr. Tony Nelson, and Mrs. Bussan. The Stewartville Science Fair will be held at Bear Cave Intermediate School on Friday, April 1st. The ZED Science Fair will be held at Bear Cave Intermediate School on Friday, April 8th.

ZED Summer Academy

A one-week summer school event is planned for the '21-'22 school year. It is designed to serve the needs of gifted and talented students who have completed grades 3-6. Students must be recommended by staff from their local districts in order to attend. Check the ZED website and upcoming newsletters for additional information.
