The Steve Stefani Dance Marathon is an annual charity event held at Springfield High School in Springfield, Pennsylvania, to raise funds for childhood cancer research and support through the Four Diamonds organization. It is part of the larger Mini-THON® initiative, which engages K-12 students across the U.S. to help combat childhood cancer.
The event, named in honor of Steve Stefani, a former teacher at Springfield High School, fosters leadership skills in students, emphasizing teamwork, creativity, and community spirit. This year's Steve Stefani Dance Marathon was the twenty-second annual event. Our theme was "Reflect Hope for Tomorrow!" Together, as the Springfield/Morton Community, we keep the thoughts of our loved ones who have battled cancer or are continuing to battle it, in our minds, for they are the true heroes in every sense of the word. We endured the pain of being on our feet for 15 hours, which does not even compare to what our families experienced during their fight. We hope that by raising awareness and funds for Four Diamonds, we will be able to reflect hope for many more tomorrows for every child, not only here, but everywhere. This year, we had a goal of 500 participants, which would be a little less than half of our entire student body. We have met and exceeded this goal with 511 participants including dancers, committee members, captains and leaders! The monetary goal for this year's leadership team was $125,000. We would like to recognize John Gildea: Walker who paved the way for this marquee school event. In the previous 21 years, we have raised more than 2.9 million dollars and we completed a special goal. Our total for SSDM 2024 has allowed us to exceed a total of 3 million dollars raised by Springfield School District alone! The grand total for the 2024 Steve Stefani Dance Marathon was $149,105.57. There are so many people to thank here this evening for making this such a special event, but please know that as the advisors for this group, we are astounded by the giving nature of our local businesses, the community at large, faculty, staff, administration, and of course, the students of this district. You continue to be the light in this community and we applaud you.
