In March we follow the Iditarod race in Alaska! All students will select a musher and will follow him or her daily along the trail. We will record where each musher is located in our journals, and move our musher along a map in the hallway.
We will also complete journal entries from our musher's perspective, and work on an Idita-Dictionary of musher terminology! We will be experts by the time the race ends!
This year, mushers followed the Southern Route. Students can can track their musher's progress from home by visiting: http://iditarod.com/
We will also read a story called Foxy's Tale. This book is written from the point of view of a sled dog in the Junior Iditarod! It is based on a true story! Information about how to order your own copy of the book (with a signature from the author) will be sent home after we read it!
