"Reading is dreaming with open eyes..."
Reading is one of my favorite things to do, and that makes GO BLUE one of my favorite parts of the day! GO BLUE takes place from 1-2 pm daily. I have a strategic group of 12 students in my GO BLUE class!
Students rotate through different centers every other day.
1. iReady
2. Independent Reading
3. Word Work
4. Vocabulary & Spelling City
5. Guided Reading and Writing with me
When students are with me, we work on phonics, sight words, and word work. We practice tapping out words and sounds, practicing sound cards, and putting words together and apart.
Then we read, read, read. We work on different reading strategies, such as "Chunky Monkey" (breaking the word into chunks) and "Stretchy Snake" (sounding out the word). We look for patterns in the story and the words inside. We respond to text by making text-self connections, drawing conclusions, making inferences, looking for facts/opinions, and finding key details. We write about what we read in our journals.
Students are encouraged to read as much as possible at home. Here are some of my favorite apps for practicing reading and writing skills:
