Science

The Kindergarten science curriculum consists of three units that are embedded into our literacy program and allows children to start exploring the world around them. The Units are as follows:

Myself and Others (Trimester 1): This unit connects to our Social Studies unit about ourselves and others. We explore ways to get along with others, bullying, problem solving, and families. Part of the unit allows students to explore their skin, fingerprints, hair, eyes, and hands to see their unique characteristics.

Forces and Motion (Trimester 3): Forces are all around us! We learn about their impact on our bodies and objects, including methods and types of movement. Velocity, positional concepts, and speed are three additional concepts covered as we experiment with cars, ramps, balls, pinwheels, and more!

Aquatic Habitats (Trimester 4): Oceans, lakes, and ponds are ripe for exploration in this hands-on unit about our aquatic world. We maintain classroom aquariums with platys, snails, anacharis, duckweed, and algae to observe and write about in our science journals. Pollution, fish and snails, and plant life and parts are all covered in this unit.
