EMC3 Sensory Protocol Video: Reflection Questions
How do you currently determine preferred and non preferred activities for your student(s)?
How might this sensory protocol positively impact your student and teaching practices?
Why might it be important to complete additional probes for your students once area(s) are determined as preferred?
Our preferences change within the day, so do our students' preferences. While it's important to honor our students preferences, it is also our job to ensure that we are fostering exploration and learning through a wide variety of stimuli and learning activities.
"Brain based research indicates that when children are given a choice and variety in their learning, their motivation and learning increase. Student motivation increases when given control of content and the process of learning.' (Jensen, 1994)
Check out an EMC3 Sensory Protocol in action via your participant folder! There are two videos for you to watch. Note the difference in the student's response to each probe. Consider how you might probe further to develop a larger list of preferences for this student.
