Welcome to MAKES where you will be challenged everyday to think, solve problems and create.
The world is changing today faster than ever. Emerging technology and natural disasters are rapidly impacting our economy and the workforce in real time. Education must respond to these challenges to prepare students for success in a changing world. The ability to adapt, collaborate, and innovate are essential to success. The Design + Entrepreneurship program serves to teach design, production / fabrication, critical thinking and entrepreneurship skills to be applied to a broad range of problems and empower students to realize innovative solutions that make the world a better place.
The MAKES program will introduce students to a collaborative studio culture that will explore aspects of science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics (STEAM) through lessons, research and hands-on projects. Embedded in this curriculum are practical applications of math, science, English and cultural proficiency. Makers will learn and apply principles and methods of entrepreneurship to develop products and services that align with their interests and contribute to society. This program will cultivate a “maker mentality” that values self-discipline as students pursue self-directed work. Students will learn and apply the principles of design thinking to both identify and solve problems working individually and as a team. Students will be immersed in the local entrepreneurship community through participating in events, competitions and presenting their work to other entrepreneurs. Reviews and presentations will offer constructive criticism positioning students to transform problems into opportunities and self-evaluate their work. Students will learn technical skills to help them visualize, communicate, and present their ideas as well processes to translate these ideas into physical form.
