Meet Ms. Sweetman

A little about me...

This is my fourth year teaching 5th grade at Carlton Oaks and my sixth year of teaching! I previously taught 6th grade at Hill Creek School in Santee, and before that, I taught 3rd grade at Harloe Elementary in Arroyo Grande, CA. I received my undergraduate degree and teaching credential from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. Last spring, I completed my Masters of Arts in Education at National University. I am recently engaged to my fiancé, Luke. We are planning our wedding for this upcoming spring, so this is my last year as "Ms. Sweetman"! When I am not teaching, you can find me reading, cooking, gardening, running, or at the beach!

My Teaching Philosophy

One of my biggest goals as an educator is to empower students to become versatile thinkers and life-long learners. I believe children learn best through meaningful, hands-on learning experiences with real-world applications. I strive to provide all my students with quality educational experiences that promote critical thinking skills beyond the classroom. In turn, I expect my students to work with a growth mindset and contribute to our positive learning community.
