It must be a portrait painting 

Painting of someone well known in their field: e.g. Actor, Singer, Politician, Artist etc.

May be painted in any medium (eg. oil, acrylic, watercolour, mixed media)

Artwork must be worked on and completed in that year only

Artist must be an Australasian resident. 

The artist must have at least one live sitting with their chosen person

Trustees of the Art Gallery of New South Wales are the judges for the main prize.
