Senior Associate EditorIn the glorious chapters of heroism are the colorful faces of the world’s lionhearts. Year 2020’s story is beyond Owl City’s song, “Not all heroes wear capes.” Today, they wear civilian clothes, medical scrubs, and uniforms. Today, they use gloves and face masks. Today, they are the icons of our lives.
The pandemic leaves no corners of hospitals unoccupied and a minimum of a metre for interactions in proper observance of social distancing. Without a cure and only a vaccine undergoing several clinical trials, the world has a single powerful shield—the frontliners.
Braving the front lines are our healthcare professionals, garbage collectors, security guards, delivery men, and skeletal workforces. The lack of stable healthcare systems, protective suits, and funds disrupt the image of victory against the pandemic. To assist their needs, here is a list of organizations and their respective efforts for our modern-day heroes.
St. Scholastica’s College, Manila’s “Project COV-AID” is the institution’s way of supporting its partner community, Santisima Trinidad, with a goal of raising Php 88,000 every week through auctions and virtual concerts from the administrations, students, and alumni.
Airbnb accommodates 100,000 COVID-19 frontliners in partnership with the Philippine Disaster Resilience Foundation (PDRF), the Philippine’s major private sector for disaster risk reduction and management.
Unilever, a consumer goods company, hosts a disinfectant kits distribution initiative.
ABS-CBN’s “Pantawid ng Pag-Ibig” project, which began last March 19, 2020, continuously calls for cash donations in order to support homeless families in Caloocan, Las Pinas, Malabon, Makati, Mandaluyong, Manila, Marikina, Muntinlupa, Navotas, Paranaque, Pasay, Pasig, Pateros, Quezon City, San Juan, Taguig, and Valenzuela.
GMA Kapuso Foundation’s “Operation Bayanihan: Labanan ang Covid-19” provides medical supplies to hospitals located within Metro Manila, Benguet, Bulacan, Cagayan, Laguna, Lanao del Sur, Leyte, Marinduque, Pampanga, Quezon, Rizal, Samar, and Sulu.
A Philippine voluntary group, Salamat PH Healthcare Heroes, seeks to distribute meals to medical frontliners and troops in Metro Manila.
Bayanihan Musikahan is an organization headed by Maestro Ryan Cayabyab to bring the people together towards an objective of raising funds through virtual concerts.
With numerous foundations such as the abovementioned, we can further support all those who are affected by the pandemic. Truly, we can all perform small acts with great love. If we continue to work together, we can triumph over the fight against COVID-19!
