**Practice begins on Monday, February 5! Make sure you have a physical prior to the start of the season!**
Hello and welcome! We are excited that you are interested in track & field at SR.
When is the season?
Track is in the spring and runs from February to May.
When are the meets?
Most meets are on Saturdays, but we also have meets on a few Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Is practice mandatory?
Of course! We have a 5 absence policy for the season.
Are there cuts in track & field?
Yes. This year, we will be making cuts. See the backside for details. You may try out for multiple events.
Can I do other sports as well as track?
Yes, so long as you make it to your track commitments and adhere to the 5 absence policy. (Those wanting to do two spring SR sports at the same time need the approval of both head coaches. This will NOT work for baseball.)
Can I pick the events I want to participate in?
Yes. For weekday meets, athletes choose their events. This is also true for most Saturday meets.
How many events can I participate in during a meet?
You are allowed to participate in up to 4 events at a meet. You MUST participate in a minimum of 2 events (this includes pole vaulters).
Who can compete on the varsity team?
Anyone! Athletes of any age can make the varsity team by producing the top marks.
Running Events in track & field: 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600, 3200, 100/110 High Hurdles, 300 Low Hurdles
Field Events in track & field: long jump, triple jump, high jump, pole vault, discus, shot put
Relay Events in track & field: 4x100, 4x400, 4x800
The Process for Cuts in Track & Field
Practice begins on February 5. We will begin evaluating work ethic, attitude, sportsmanship, etc. during the first week of practice.
We will hold time trials and competitions during the second week of practice, February 12-16. Teams will be selected by February 16.
Selections will be on both the frosh/soph and varsity levels. There will be different standards for the different levels.
We will have running trials in the 100, 400, and 1600. All field events will be contested.
Athletes will need to run under certain times for the running events and will need to either jump or throw beyond a minimum mark. Events like the hurdles, high jump, and pole vault may also have skill-based benchmarks to hit in order to be considered for the team.
We have not yet determined what those marks will be.
Come to preseason training. We are lifting and running now in order to get ready for the season.
~Monday & Wednesday 4-6 (weight room, then run)
~Thursday- 4-5 (run only)
*(no on-campus workouts over break)
~If you can’t make it to train with us, be active! Run, lift, stretch on your own.
~We have quite a few coaches, and three are on campus. See any of us any time if you have questions.
