Guideline Principle


All students must be safe, respected, cared for, and included in order to be successful.





Purpose

This student-run club provides a safe and supportive place for LGBTQ+ students and allies to create a community. At the elementary school level, this club discusses topics of family, identity, and respect. It is a space for all students to connect and hold space for each other. The Prism Club promotes a safe, healthy school climate and an anti-bullying message for all students to be included.

Jacob's New Dress

In a warmly illustrated picture book meant to comfort both boys who are gender-nonconforming and their parents, young Jacob asks his mom for a dress to wear to school. At first, Jacob's interest in wearing dresses is limited to playing dress-up.

Julián is a Mermaid

This is a story about a boy who wants to be a mermaid that will resonate with all kids who have secret dreams. Julián shares his dream and identity with his abuela, but when he first tries dressing as a mermaid, he does it when he's alone.

Stella Brings the Family

Stella’s class is having a Mother’s Day celebration, but what’s a girl with two daddies to do? It’s not that she doesn’t have someone who helps her with her homework, or tucks her in at night. Stella has her Papa and Daddy who take care of her, and a whole gaggle of other loved ones who make her feel special and supported every day. She just doesn’t have a mom to invite to the party. Fortunately, Stella finds a unique solution to her party problem in this sweet story about love, acceptance, and the true meaning of family.

Pride: A Story of Harvey Milk and the Rainbow Flag

A House for Everyone

At lunchtime, all of Tom's friends gather at school to work together building their house. Each one of them has a special job to do, and each one of them has a different way of expressing their gender identity.

Jackson is a boy who likes to wear dresses. Ivy is a girl who likes her hair cut really short. Alex doesn't feel like 'just' a boy, or 'just' a girl. They are all the same, they are all different - but they are all friends.

I Am Jazz

From the time she was two years old, Jazz knew that she had a girl's brain in a boy's body. She loved pink and dressing up as a mermaid and didn't feel like herself in boys' clothing. This confused her family, until they took her to a doctor who said that Jazz was transgender and that she was born that way.

Uncle Bobby's Wedding
