There is a place for you in our program!
Whether you have been playing an instrument for several years or you are looking to start learning an instrument, you will find everything you need in our instrumental music program. We have several classes available to expand the music growth of our young musicians.
BEGINNERS ARE WELCOME AND ENCOURAGED TO ENROLL
Course Offerings Include:
6th Grade Band - Open to students in 6th grade
Concert Band - Open to students in 7th and 8th grade
Symphonic Band - Open to students in 7th and 8th grade by audition
Cadet Orchestra - Open to students in 6th grade (and beginners in 7th grade and 8th grade)
Concert Orchestra - Open to students in 7th and 8th grade (returning students)
Symphonic Orchestra - Open to students in 7th and 8th grade by audition
Jazz Band - Open to students in 7th and 8th grade by audition (students must also enroll in a Day Band or Orchestra)
Available Class Instrumentation: violin, viola, cello, double bass, flute, oboe, clarinet, bass clarinet, bassoon, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, baritone saxophone, trumpet, baritone horn, horn, trombone, tuba and percussion.
Jazz Band Instrumentation: trumpet, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, baritone saxophone, trombone, piano, guitar, bass (double or electric), drum-set. Additional instruments are allowed on an individual basis.
Instrument Rental: We are proud to have a pool of student instruments available for loan all thanks to the generous donations of the Devon Marvin Music Foundation. Please contact Mr. Loomer for availability if your child would like to use a school instrument.

About Mr. Loomer
Mr. Loomer has been teaching at Diablo Vista Middle School since 2023 and prior to that taught at Stone Valley Middle School for 13 years!
A native of Walnut Creek, CA, his primary instrument is the trumpet. He earned his Associate of Arts Degree in Music from Los Medanos College and he earned a Bachelor of Music Degree in Music Education from The University of The Pacific in Stockton, CA.
Mr. Loomer is also a performing musician. He plays trumpet with the Contra Costa Wind Symphony and has also played with the Walnut Creek Jazz Band. As a part of his continued service to music education, Mr Loomer has also served as the Band Representative for the California Music Education Association Bay Section Chapter.
Mr. Loomer is the dad of one boy, William, who is currently enrolled at Tassajara Hills Elementary.
