 INTRODUCTION

Since the 1980s, organizations have engaged in digital transformations by coordinating, automating, and outsourcing productive activity. Client-server architectures replaced mainframes, revamping supply chains and promoting decentralization. Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems automated administrative processes. Technological shifts to cloud and SaaS have changed software evolution and the economics of renting versus owning. Machine learning and artificial intelligence uncover patterns that drive new products and services. During the Covid-19 pandemic, virtual interactions replaced physical interactions out of sheer necessity and it acted as a catalyst to promote digitalization within businesses.

Despite years of discussion, understanding what digital transformation means for established companies remains a daunting challenge. Organizations facing the dilemma of digital transformation feel pulled in many different directions, with competing demands from IT, human resources management, marketing, sales, and operations. Digital transformation is all about identifying and changing where value is created, and how your business model is structured.

To thrive in a digitized universe, merely tweaking the management practices that led to past success will not be enough. We need to evaluate the strategic implications of digital disruption and create a future-proofed digital business model.

The international conference will help provide participants with a platform to demonstrate their ideas about future trends with respect to the ongoing inculcation of digitalization in business, management, and technology. Further, this conference explores ideas on how new and existing business models and strategies can be improved through the introduction of technologies and digital systems.

"People are racing against the machine, and many of them are losing that race… Instead of racing against the machine, we need to learn to race with the machine. That is our grand challenge."

– Erik Brynjolfsson, Director of the Initiative on the Digital Economy
