Sylvester Ranch Inc. began in 1946, when Wesley R. Sylvester started farming and selling seed in Riley, Kansas. In 1959, his son, Russell, joined him, carrying forward both the family tradition and a shared passion for agriculture. In 1964, the expansion of Ft. Riley precipitated a move for the Sylvester’s farm operation, and they settled on land in Ottawa, Kansas, where they have farmed and lived ever since.

In the 80’s and 90’s, Sylvester Ranch Inc., expanded its seed business by adding a production facility, warehouses and seed delivery. This expansion allowed them to enter the rapidly-growing private-label soybean industry, under the name Midland Genetics.

In 2022, Sylvester Ranch Inc. left the commercial seed industry and partnered with Mustang Seeds becoming their main seed conditioning facility for their southern region.

Nearly 80 years later, Sylvester Ranch Inc. has prevailed through the ever-changing agricultural landscape by growing and adapting with the changing times. Today, we are proud to be the 5th generation of Sylvesters – farming, producing seed, and caring for the land.
