Feel free to use me as a resource in helping you and your family through whatever transition you may be facing: whether it be an eighth-grader needing to make decisions about high school, a social/academic situation, a move, a change in status of someone's health, a death of a family member (or even a pet). Our emotional lives affect our ability to focus and be productive. Someone once said, "We are either just coming out of a trial or just going into one.

Dear Parent/Guardian,

Often, I ask the students: Who is the only person you can control? The answer is OURSELVES -- what we do and what we say. We can't make anyone like us, can't make anyone honest, etc. And we certainly can't change the world. We CAN find ways that help to calm ourselves -- breathing slowly and quietly, listening to music, taking a bike ride, going for a hike, dancing, Self-care is imperative. Our children take their cues from us, the adults in their lives. Let them see us making smart choices, listening to what they have to say, and giving them lots of love and attention. Another thing I tell the children is that there is NOTHING they can do to make God love them more and NOTHING they can do to make God love them less.

Life is unpredictable (WHAT an understatement). Never forget that God is ALWAYS available, ALWAYS present in any circumstance in which we find ourselves. "Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go." Joshua 1:9

I have been using this scripture verse as a mantra these days as I take life one day at a time:

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding." Proverbs 3:5

If you have any concerns that you want brought to my attention, please feel free to email me at: bcarey@srgs.org.
