Here at Laurel Dell we have such a big community and at LEAP we continue to teach and show the students what its all about.
Our LEAP Program is a mix of learning, teaching, exploring, guiding and experiencing opportunities that might help them in their future. We love to encourage students to try out new things that might spark their interest! With our donations one of the things we like to get are Subcontractors for our students. Subcontractors are Organizations that come and offer classes to our students and introduce them to new activities.
With Cooking Classes from Cookings For Life allows the students a chance to learn about the food they are cooking, a healthy way to make yummy food and to open the door to a new possibilities for their future.
Lacrosse Volunteers come and show the students that there are more sports out there. They give them a new look on a new fun way for physical activities. Also learning more ways for coordinates with their hands and being able to create the bond within the team.
Theses are just a few of the Subcontractors that help add to our Community in LEAP. We want to give our students the opportunities to try new things because we understand that some families might not be able to give their students the same opportunities.
We care deeply about our students academics and social skills. We have specific days that are dedicated to help the students get better academic wise and socially.
Mondays are dedicated to Math Games and Math Activities. Our amazing LEAP Teachers take the time before getting the kids to look up or create fun Math Games. The purpose of this is to challenge not only the LEAP teachers in finding something that will not only engage their students but also want them to continue to want to learn in a fun way.
Tuesdays we like to have Reading & Writing be the main focus after Homework. Some LEAP Teachers like to print out Scripts for their classes as fun way to practice their reading, speaking in front of other and having fun while acting out the characters. Other LEAP Teachers like to pick out a book their class will ready for the school year and every week will read, discuss the book and write a book report on the part they've read.
Wednesdays is our longer day for the LEAP Program. The students get dismissed early in the day so we have a longer time with them than usual but it truly benefits us in the end. On Wednesdays we always have Community Circle within the classes and Clubs. Community Circle on Wednesdays is a time where the class has chance to bond in many ways. Discussing about topics that might be happening within their class, discussing things that could be happening in the day time, learning about each other in team bonding activities to make them stronger as a class or class building games. We also have Clubs on Wednesdays which is one of the main reason our students want to stay longer during pick up time. Clubs is a kids choice where each week they get a chance to pick which club they would like to go to for an hour. Our choice in Clubs are Sports Club, Quiet Club, Crochet Club, Ceramics Club, Games Club, Walking Club, Gardening Club and Cubs Club. During our rainy months we provide Indoor Sports Clubs, Pokemon Club, Dance Club and Beats Club. This is a time where the students can relax and enjoy an activity that they want to do and possibly be able to take something they created home.
Thursdays are the days where the LEAP Teachers and the LEAP students get to take the creativity in their minds and bring it to life through STEAM! STEAM is Science, Technology, Engineer, Art and Math mixed all together into one. Our LEAP Teachers will look up fun science project or project where the students have to use their minds and build something or even give them random items for them to use their minds to create a safe basket so their egg for the Egg Drop won't break!
Fridays are the days we get to find down, reflect on the week and have some extra fun! We have a Big Community Circle with the whole program where the LEAP Teachers pick either 1 to 4 students that have been setting the example for the week, helping their LEAP teacher out, helping out other students and being a good community member. We have a set time for Special Announcements coming up within in the next few weeks or within the next month, Reminders about Subcontractors or SCORES Gamedays. We also have a special time where a few students get to do a Student to Student Shout Out where they get to Shout out a student that has helped them, been nice to them, offered to play with them or just for being nice to them. We follow up the day with an hour of Clubs ! Clubs is a kids choice where each week they get a chance to pick which club they would like to go to for an hour. Our choice in Clubs are Sports Club, Quiet Club, Crochet Club, Ceramics Club, Games Club, Walking Club, Gardening Club and Cubs Club. During our rainy months we provide Indoor Sports Clubs, Pokemon Club, Dance Club, Beat Club and even a Language Club. This is a time where the students can relax and enjoy an activity that they want to do and possibly be able to take something they created home.
We take the time and ask the students what they would like to have in LEAP and carefully bring Subcontractors, Games and Activities that we know our students will love. We want to make sure to provide a safe, engaging, learning and fun After School Program for our Community.
