Santa Rosa City Schools (SRCS) is looking at how to right size the District’s facilities in light of declining enrollment. Accordingly, it is currently forming a school district advisory committee—School Consolidation Advisory Committee (Committee), which is sometimes referred to as a 7-11 Committee. If you would like to participate and are qualified, we invite you to apply to be a member of the Committee.
Purpose of the School Consolidation Advisory Committee
The purpose of the Committee is to review and analyze the school sites within the District and determine which might be closed and/or consolidated as it will not be needed for school purposes. The Committee will then present a report to the Santa Rosa City Schools Board of Education (Board) recommending school sites for school closure and/or consolidation. This is an important task and the District is looking for highly-qualified, capable, and committed individuals to be members of the Committee.
Under California law (Education Code Section [EC §] 17387 et seq.), the Committee must have at least seven (7) members and no more than eleven (11) members, though for the District’s purposes, the School Consolidation Advisory Committee will be expanded to be comprised of 20 members in an effort to include a broader cross-section of community members who have an interest in and may be affected by school closures.
At a minimum, the Committee must contain persons who can be representative of each of the following:
The ethnic, age group and socioeconomic composition of the district;
The business community, such as store owners, managers, or supervisors;
Landowners or renters, with preference to be given to representatives of neighborhood associations;
Teachers;
Administrators;
Parents of Students;
Persons with expertise in environmental impact, legal contracts, building codes, and land use planning, including, but not limited to, knowledge of the zoning and other land use restrictions of the cities or cities and counties in which surplus space and real property is located.
