I grew up in Santa Rosa, have lived ,taught and traveled all over the world. I was elated and excited to re-establish back "home." After teaching in Santa Rosa for four years, I got a job at my Alma Matter Slater and it's been a wild ride. In 2017 my daughter Lily was born and she's the most joyful and happy and silly thing I know. We love to do art in our spare time, going walks, play dress up and cuddle on rainy days, watching movies.
Teaching Philosophy
I have a BA in history from Lewis & Clark College and an MA in Teaching from George Fox University. In grad school and beyond I've learned that true learning cannot happen without first establishing trusting and positive relationships with students. In our classroom we seek to understand each other and know that everyone comes into this space with different perspectives, view points, and most importantly, experiences.
This is what makes the conversations and lessons so rich! We bring these elements to our classroom curriculum, specifically writing. I believe that all students are great writers - no matter their perceived skill - and it's my goal to have them all leave my classroom at the end of the year knowing their worth, areas they can improve and areas of strength. But most importantly, that they are valued as members of our learning and writing community!
Aside from being a mom and teacher, I also practice art in my free time. Watercolor and Acrylic/Acrylic Collage are my go to mediums, but creativity takes many forms in our house. Art has an amazing way of connecting us to our environment and each other and in our class we will explore our creative and artistic sides, along with the traditional reading, writing, speaking and listening.
