I am excited to welcome you to Integrated Math 1-P. I look forward to challenging you and helping you meet these challenges as you begin your journey in our A-G math courses at SRHS. This course is a “college prep” level class. It is designed for students who would like to attend a four year university directly after graduating from high school. However, admission into a 4-year college as a graduating senior is not guaranteed simply by being enrolled in these courses. In order to be considered for admission to Cal State and UC schools one must not only take three years of “college prep” math while in high school even if you completed Math 1-P in middle school but must also maintain a “C” average as well as successfully meet score requirements on standardized tests like the ACT and SAT.

Earning at least a C in this course may prove to be challenging for some, as the rigor (level of difficulty and expectations) will likely be higher than in some of your previous math classes. We, the SRHS Math department, strongly believe that we must maintain high expectations for you so that you are truly ready for your next adventure in college.

So, how can you help yourself meet this goal? We are here to help. Many of your math teachers are available before school and after school to help you. We are eager to help you with your assignments. We offer free math tutoring two days a week after school with credentialed math teachers. There are online resources as well. In the end, though, you must take on most of the responsibilities: attending school on a daily basis, asking questions, coming in every day ready to meet the day’s challenges, studying before quizzes and tests, keeping yourself organized, etc...All these practices are attributes of successful college students as well.

It won’t be easy. Hard things are hard. However, remember that the SRHS Math Department is here to help and we genuinely want all of our students to be successful.
