The Peninsula Accountability for Contamination Team's (PACT) mission is to advocate alongside community members to advance contaminated site clean-up and infrastructure resilience, addressing the impacts of sea level and groundwater rise in low-lying areas of the Peninsula. Through this work, we aim to safeguard the health and well-being of our community for generations to come.
PACT members include representatives from Belle Haven Community Development Fund, Belle Haven Empowered, Climate Resilient Communities (CRC), Nuestra Casa, and Youth United for Community Action (YUCA). PACT was launched in December 2023 after local research and advocacy efforts informed us of groundwater rise risks in the communities we serve.
Community Engagement: Inform, work with, and advocate alongside community members to drive contaminated site clean-up and infrastructure resilience in our neighborhoods. Through practical education, outreach, and collaboration, we seek to amplify the voices of those most affected by environmental hazards.
Community-Driven Policy Reform: Drive local, regional, and state policy changes that advance contaminated site clean-up and infrastructure upgrade processes and regulations. By advocating for robust and equitable policies, we will ensure that all communities have access to timely and thorough contaminated site remediation and infrastructure resilience maintenance and upgrade projects
Scientific Understanding & Communication: Maintain awareness, understanding, and use-value of the latest scientific research on groundwater and sea level rise impacts and adaptation strategies. By disseminating accurate and accessible information, we aim to empower residents to make informed decisions about their health and environment.
Resource Mobilization: Pursue funding opportunities to support the Coalition's initiatives and further community engagement efforts.Â
