On 28 November 2020, sixteen Form 1 students and their parents participated in a Parent-Child STEAM Workshop jointly organized by the STEAM Education Team and the Parent-Teacher Association at the School Hall. The participants explored different features of the new BBC micro:bit v2 and designed creative products by programming and upcycling various old materials provided by the Visual Arts Department and the Home Economics Department.
The BBC micro:bit is a pocket-sized programmable computer. The micro:bit v2 is the latest version recently released with new features including an on-board speaker, a microphone with LED indicator and a touch-sensitive logo.
After learning about the basic functions of the micro:bit v2, the students and their parents collaborated to design their own products using the single board computer together with the upcyclable materials, such as scrap fabric, unwanted textiles and plastic bottle caps and lids. The families happily presented their creative products, e.g. step counter, alarm, timer and compass in the sharing session.
It was a workshop full of inspiration and fun. The parents enjoyed the programming and process of product design with their daughters.
