Grading Scale

A ten (10) point grading scale is used to report scholastic progress in the following ranges:

Semester Grades: To determine the semester grade average, the first and second nine (9) weeks grades shall be added and divided by 2 to determine the first semester average. The third and fourth nine (9) weeks grades shall be added and divided by 2 to determine the second semester average. Final grades should be determined by averaging the semester grades. For example, 88 first semester, 94 second semester, total 182, 182 divided by 2 equals 91 which is the final grade.

Final Grades: The final grade will be determined by averaging the two nine week grades:

Example:

   88/B First Nine Weeks

+ 94/A Second Nine Weeks

   182

182 ÷ 2 = 91/A- Final Grade

Testing

Standards of Learning (SOL) Assessments

The SOL tests are designed to measure student achievement throughout the State of Virginia. Students in selected grades are tested in the four core academic areas: Mathematics, English, Science, and History/Social Science. Students in Grades 8 and 11 will be assessed in Writing. All students must receive 5 verified credits in high school per VDOE in order to graduate.  SOL testing is scheduled in the fall, spring, and at the end of summer school each year. Other opportunities are available for re-testing or recovery.
