• 1940: Computer version of the game Nim unveiled at the World’s Fair.
• 1956: Computer scientist Arthur Samuel debuts his computer checkers program.
• 1962: The game Spacewar! is created at MIT.
• 1972: Magnavox Odyssey is released; Atari debuts the arcade game Pong.
• 1977: Atari 2600 goes on sale.
• 1978: The arcade game Space Invaders is released.
• 1981: Arcade game Donkey Kong debuts, introducing a character that would become the video game icon, Mario.
• 1985: Nintendo Entertainment System is released in the United States.
• 1989: Nintendo Game Boy debuts.
• 1995: PlayStation was released in the United States.
• 2001: Microsoft introduces the Xbox.
• 2006: Nintendo unveils the Wii.
• 2009: First version of the mobile game Angry Birds is released.
• 2013: Microsoft’s Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 debut.
• 2017: Nintendo Switch is released.
• Xbox 1 X is released
