READ 180 / Humanities

Read 180/Humanities Class Overview - Read 180 is designed to help master critical reading skills with its blended reading approach. This method uses a customized reading approach where students use a flexible rotation model that combines an in person and online approach. During in person learning time, students read a variety of books and articles that will help develop their literacy skills. Incorporated in Read 180/Humanities, students will learn about argument writing, how to think analytically, and how to conduct research within the context of learning about America's foundations. Student will also become informed citizens while learning about current events, including the upcoming election. During Read 180/Humanities remote learning, students will work independently on the Read 180 app, which follows their personalized path to help accelerate their learning. They will also be responsible to complete assigned work posted in google classroom.

Humanities classes are a combination of English Language Arts (ELA) and Social Studies in a daily double block, based on the idea that students become more engaged readers and writers if they are deeply involved with the topics of study. This first trimester, 6th grade Read 180/Humanities will focus on different cultures. 7th grade Read 180/Humanities will focus on Civics and Government.

About me:

I have work in a variety of roles in education for my entire career and I couldn't be more excited to be your Read 180/Humanities teacher this year at Memorial Middle School. I love to read and write and I hope that you will grow to love it too! I am a mother of three adult daughters and have two very busy grandchildren. My favorite thing to do is to spend time outdoors. I love to paddle board, walk in the woods, and spend time at the lake or the ocean. I am looking forward to this new way of learning in our Hybrid Classroom!
