My introduction to teaching started in 2012 when I began lifeguarding and teaching swim lessons at the South Portland Community Center. Shortly after starting that job, I decided that I wanted to be a teacher. I attended the University of Maine at Farmington, studied Elementary Education, and graduated in 2018. Later on, I returned back to UMF to get my masters in Educational Leadership with a concentration on Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages.
I spent my first two years teaching 4th grade in Lewiston, ME. I learned so much about myself, and about my practice as an educator in my first two years. Some of my ideal teaching beliefs are to give students choice and leadership in the classroom, to make learning fun, engaging and worthwhile, and to build strong positive relationships within our classroom community.
On a personal note, I enjoy being active through exercising and playing sports. Some of my favorite sports to play are basketball, golf, and soccer. I enjoy listening to a variety of music, playing some video games, and watching the Celtics and Patriots. I consider myself to be funny, but I guess I will leave it up to my students to see if they agree 😅.
