Welcome to the online At-Home Learning mini-course for South Portland PreK-5 teachers and staff. This course is intended to highlight principles and best practices of remote learning. Its based on a larger course the was created by K-12 South Portland library staff created in the spring of 2020.
Depending on our roles and experience, we will have different goals and outcomes for this mini-course. There is a lot of material available, but we expect that you will be selective on what you spend time reviewing. If this is your first time through, it should take you about 2 hours to review the material. If you took this course before, you will probably not need to spend as much time to refresh your memory.
Day One: Module 1 - Creating the Environment
Day Two: Module 2 - Wayfinding
Day Three: Module 3 - Relationships
Day Four: Module 4 - Assessment
Much of this course is based on an introductory class offered by Global Online Academy. They are a non-profit online high school and this is part of their teacher training.
This article nicely summarizes their messages and what will be expanded upon in this course: 15 Strategies for Online Learning When School is Closed. It outlines 15 strategies to help guide your thinking in creating online learning environments for students when the physical school building is closed.
