Dear Students and Families,
I wanted to introduce myself and share my background with you. I was born and raised in Maine, although I have traveled to many places in the world. About 18 years ago, I moved to Portland where I met my husband, Peter. In April of 2014, we had our first son, Henry. He is in 4th grade and loves playing any sport! Will is in first grade and is a very creative and energetic kid!
Some of my interests and hobbies include cooking, reading, listening to music, and exploring nature through hikes, canoe rides, and camping. My favorite spot this summer was Kettle Cove in Cape Elizabeth!
I attended the University of Southern Maine for both my Bachelor and Master's Degrees. This will be my 11th year teaching at Memorial Middle School; however, I taught for two years prior to this at a Private School.
I first realized that I loved working with kids while working at a summer camp when I was in my early 20's. After volunteering in an after school program, helping kids with school projects and homework I realized that I wanted to become a teacher. I love teaching, learning, and just making a difference in the lives of many people.
One goal I have this year in Humanities is to help my students find joy in learning! I want my students to feel connected to what we are learning and be excited to learn things within each unit that they are interested in discovering.
I am excited for this school year and getting to know you!! The best way to communicate with me is by email; farwelja@spsdme.org . Please feel free to contact me anytime with questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Farwell
