About this class

This course is designed for the student who enjoys singing. It focuses on vocal techniques and builds individual skills that contribute to both individual and ensemble singing. Typically we would perform as a group three times a year. This year, we will be engaging in a variety of different individual and group learning experiences!

Students will:

  • Study and sing vocal works from a variety of historical periods and musical styles

  • Develop techniques for good vocal production

  • Learn fundamentals of music

  • Learn to play instruments as a way to self accompany

  • Explore songwriting as a means of expression and learn skills to create original songs

  • Expand understanding of the broad world of choral and solo singing including pop, Broadway, classical, folk, gospel, contemporary a cappella and beyond.

Your grade in this class will be based on the following:

  • Participation, work ethic, and class contributions: 50%

  • In-class assignments: 30%

  • Quizzes and tests 20%

  • Work will be posted twice weekly (Monday/Tuesday and Thursday/Friday) in Google Classroom.
