Role of a School Counsellor

A School Counsellor will:

a) provide direct counselling to children and families;

b) consult with school staff and parents;

c) act as advocate for the children and their parents;

d) participate as a member of the school-based team;

e) provide direct instruction to students in areas such as peer helping, conflict resolution, social skills and life skills;

f) coordinate services for students with special needs - this includes but is not limited to the following: psycho-educational assessment as recommended by the learning team, coordination of Individual Program Plans (IPPs) for students, coordination of Success in School plans for students in care, and requesting consultants as needed for students with special needs.

g) act as liaison with community agencies and allied professionals.

"It takes a village to raise a child." We want to help those in need, and promote the belief that asking for help is a sign of strength. Our goal is that all families in our school know that assistance is available and that they do not need to struggle alone. We are one community, when one family is struggling, we are beholden as neighbors to help in whatever capacity we are able.

If you or someone you know is struggling please contact me.
