Kevin Mattia (kmattia@suffield.org) begins his 9th year at Suffield Middle School for the 2022-23 school year. The SMS curriculum will include video productions, robotics, programming and engineering, CAD design and manufacturing (additive and subtractive), and production of the Middle school daily news show.
The 6th grade will apply the video production process in creating a video along with an intro to CAD and additive manufacturing. The 7th grade will explore coding and VEX robotics and apply principles of physics through a series of activities. Students will also design a CAD picture hanger and print with additive manufacturing. We will then mount these hangers to prepared wood applying subtractive manufacturing principles. Lastly the 8th grade will dive into video productions taking the lead on our daily news show, and a broadcast news lesson. 8th grade will complete their experience when they apply CAD designs to additive and subtractive manufacturing activities.
Mr. Mattia joined Suffield Public Schools after working in the Environmental Health and Public Health fields. He enjoyed employment at Trinity College in Hartford as an Environmental health and Safety Technician. He also worked in the public health field for the City of Hartford and West Hartford Bloomfield Health District. While working in public health Mr. Mattia created a video with Bloomfield schools to educate establishments on proper sanitation in a restaurant. This connection, along with a passion for education through the Environmental Health fields, paved the way for entering the education system at Suffield Public Schools.
Mr. Mattia also coaches the Suffield High Swim team (suffieldswimming.org) where we have enjoyed much success over these past 9 years. Kevin Mattia is a graduate from Central Connecticut State University (BSIT '01) in Industrial Technology specializing in Environmental and Occupational Safety. He also obtained a Masters in Management (MS '06) from Rensselaer Polytechnic institute.
