Presidential Campaign

Task: Your task is to run a presidential campaign. There are many jobs and tasks needed to run a successful campaign. The key is to raise interest in your candidate and convince the public that your candidate is the best choice for office.

Candidate- The candidate is responsible for informing your campaign team about the background and relevant information about the candidate that will help convince the voters you are a worthy president. This may include information about your political past (Adams was Vice President; Jefferson helped write the Declaration of Independence). You will also participate in a debate with the opposing candidate, as well as give a speech before the voting process. Campaign Manager- This is a big role. You are responsible for ensuring that the campaign is moving along in the direction you and your candidate like. Your task is to ensure that your team is staying on task and that each member is completing their task according to the checklists.

Policy Expert- You are responsible for learning about the political party of your member (Adams- Federalists, Jefferson- Jeffersonian Republicans). Provide your group members with a brief write up on the political party of your candidate. You need to provide your group members with a brief write up on the political policies of your candidate. Here are some websites you may find useful:

Journalist- You are responsible for writing an article on your candidate. Remember you want to give a positive spin to your candidate. You may also draw political cartoons. You will be provided with a template.

Debate Prep- You are responsible for preparing your candidate for the debate. You will be provided with the questions before the debate. You are also responsible for helping your candidate know what to wear and how to carry themselves during the debate. Remember, presentation is everything!

Speech Writer- You are responsible for writing your candidate’s speech. What are their policies? What makes them a good candidate? Be respectful and appropriate.

Public Relations- You are responsible for the visuals for your candidate. You need to create posters, buttons, and or flyers. If you create posters only, you need to have at least 3. If you choose to create a poster and something else then you only need two posters.

Other Options: Time permitting you can create a skit (commercial) for your candidate. Remember- it has to be relevant to the time and candidate.
