On the first day of kindergarten, the PTA welcomes all incoming kindergarteners (and their parents!) with an informal social gathering that takes place in the time between morning kindergarten and afternoon kindergarten.
We answer any questions parents may have and make sure they all feel welcome at school on the first day!
Students each get a treat and to write their name for display on a banner that will be displayed in the school for the first month.
We love our kindergarteners!

PHOENIX FLAIR
Phoenix Flair Fridays happen every Friday school is in session.
The goal is to see which GRADE level can show the most school spirit by wearing their Phoenix Flair to school on Fridays. Members of the PTA visit each class on Friday mornings to count students (and teachers!) wearing Phoenix Flair.
At the end of the month, the grade with the highest percentage of Phoenix Flair wins 10 minutes of extra recess!! The PTA stands in as Recess Duties so teachers can have those extra 10 minutes of planning or personal time, too.
What is Phoenix Flair?
A PTA volunteer visits the school each morning to hand deliver a small Birthday Wish to every student with a birthday on that day. Students with weekend, holiday, or summer birthdays are gotten to as near to their birthdays as possible—we make every effort to make sure no-one gets missed!
We also have a wonderful volunteer, Megan Fan, who oversees our Birthday Bulletin so each student can see his or her name on the wall.
Feeling special and valued helps each student feel more comfortable at Spring Lane Elementary and encourages participation at school in all ways—we want this to be a fun and welcoming community!
Who are WatchDOGS and how does WATCH D.O.G.S. work?
WatchDOGS are fathers, grandfathers, uncles, and other father-figures who volunteer for at least one day each year at an official WATCH D.O.G.S. school.
WATCH D.O.G.S., a K-12 program, invites fathers, grandfathers, uncles, or other father figures to volunteer at least one day all day at their child’s/student’s school during the school year. Fathers and father figures sign up to volunteer through a ‘Launch Event’ such as a “Dads and Kids Pizza Night” or “Donuts with Dad” or by calling their child’s school any time throughout the school year. The program is overseen by a “Top Dog” volunteer who partners with the school administrator to coordinate scheduling and identify opportunities for WatchDOGS to provide assistance at the school. WatchDOG dads and volunteers perform a variety of tasks during their volunteer day including monitoring the school entrance, assisting with unloading and loading of buses and cars, monitoring the lunch room, or helping in the classroom with a teacher’s guidance by working with small groups of students on homework, flashcards, or spelling.
