Sarah Schelstrate, M.Ed., M.L.S.

Student Support Specialist

Carl Wunsche, Sr. High School

About Me:

This year will be my sixteenth year in education. Previously, I spent two years as the English Instructional Specialist before I was blessed to pick up the Student Support Specialist role at CWHS in which position this will be my fourth year. Prior to working in Spring I.S.D., I taught English II Pre-AP and EOC Intervention Classes for five years as well as spending seven years at the middle school level teaching 6th grade ELA and Social Studies, 7th grade ELA, 8th grade ELA, 7th grade Reading GT, Read 180 and Systems 44 in Pharr-San Juan-Alamo I.S.D. in South Texas about ten minutes from the U.S.-Mexico border.

I was a member of our district ELA curriculum writing team for eight of my eleven years in the district at both the middle and high school levels. I also assisted in creating STAAR benchmarks, analyzing district and campus data, directing district and campus professional development in curriculum, testing tactics, ELL strategies, and writing initiatives as well as serving my previous campus in several leadership positions, such as department chair and collaborative learning facilitator.

As an SSS, I hope to aid the campus with upholding a 100% graduation rate by assisting students who are struggling academically as well as supporting teachers in identifying and implementing effective intervention strategies.

I look forward to being a valuable asset here at Carl Wunsche, Sr. High School and in Spring I.S.D.
