1. What are some examples of appropriate after-school hours events or activities for DSG students?
Tutoring/Mentoring: Reading, Math, Science, Social Studies, PE, Music, Art Buddies
Summer School Buddies
Assisting with Student Orientation
Helping with before/after school functions
School Carnivals/Field Days
Food & Clothing Drives (if at your campus, before or after school. Document the start and end time)
Food Pantries (N.A.M.)
Fundraisers for charities (if at your campus, before or after school. Document the start and end time)
Volunteering as a Summer Camp Counselor (cannot be paid)
Volunteering at libraries, senior assisted living, churches, businesses, etc.
Volunteering at any community event
Volunteering at a political event/rally
2. What types of services are not acceptable?
Making money for personal gain during service.
Babysitting or pet sitting
Chores for neighbors, friends, or relatives
Attending pap rallies or parades
Time spent participating in activities or fundraisers for clubs
Volunteering during mandated school hours

1. How do I find students when I need volunteers?
Contact one of the campus DSG staff members below:

2. What is the latest date that I can request a volunteer?
Two weeks before the event
3. Who is responsible for the DSG students while they are working during their service activity?
The individual adult is responsible for overseeing the activity. This may be a staff member of Spring ISD or a representative from an outside organization or entity.
4. How are the students’ hours documented?
The student will provide the individual adult who is responsible for overseeing the activity with the Service Verification Form to sign upon completion of their assignment that day.
5. Should I give credit for the travel time a student makes?
No, students only receive credit for the actual amount of work completed.
6. In what increments is volunteer time calculated?
Students are to receive credit for every half-hour (30 minutes) that they work. Please DO NOT award credit for transportation time.
7. How are hours calculated for an overnight activity? (Example: Church Mission Trip, Summer Camp Volunteer or Lock-In Volunteer)
Students may earn a maximum of 10 hours per day.
8. How do I know if students will be volunteering for my event?
Once you contact the campus DSG staff member, they will provide you with the student’s contact information. Students will access the DSG volunteer information section at their high school, where they will obtain your contact information and contact you by email or phone to volunteer for your event.
