Library Policies

R & D Expectations

  • Each student needs to be seated in a chair. Students may not be on the floor, or book stools. If a chair is not available, please relocate to another area.
  • Please be considerate of other students and those with offices adjoining R & D by working quietly.
  • Upon entering R & D, students must:
    • be wearing their ID badge.
    • have an official R & D pass if coming from class. The pass needs to be completed correctly or you will be sent back to class. You do NOT need a pass if you are coming from lunch, but must sign in AND out on the pink sheets on top of the first bookcase. Substitute teachers may not send students to R & D.
    • sign in AND out at the Circulation Desk.
      • If coming from class, leave your pass. Remember to get it signed BEFORE the end of the period. You must return to class 10 minutes before the end of class so your teacher can verify your pass.
      • Virtual School Students: You must stay in R & D unless you have a pass from a teacher. Remember to sign out at the end of the period.
      • Dual Credit Students: Please sign in and out at the Circulation Desk.
    • Leave food and drink outside R & D. If you have a water bottle, it must be on the floor, but you may not drink or eat in R & D.

GENERAL CIRCULATION POLICIES

  • Students may check out three books, which are due in two weeks. Students may place a hold on books that are currently checked out.

LIBRARY FINES AND CONSEQUENCES

  • Students must pay for lost or damaged books. If damages are minor, the fee may be smaller than the full cost. If damages severely curtail the use of the books for future readers, students may have to pay the entire price of the book so that a replacement may be ordered.
  • We do not accept a replacement book instead of payment.
  • Paying Fines
    • Library obligations from other Spring ISD schools can be handled at CWHS.
    • Libraries do not accept checks or credit/debit cards for fines. Please send cash only.
  • Libraries do not hold report cards for library fines.
  • Students may be denied participation is school activities, such as games or dances, if they owe a library fine.
  • Students owing a library fine are not permitted to check out library materials until they pay their fines.
  • Fines travel from campus to campus until they are paid.
  • Seniors are not permitted to participate in graduation until their fines are paid.
  • Refunds:
    • Refunds are given if a lost/paid book is found before the final day of the school year for students. After the last day of school, the book fine money will be spent to order replacements. All refunds are handled via checks to parents/guardians. No cash refunds are given.
  • Students may track their own fines and materials:
  • Students may log in to http://destiny.springisd.org, select their campus, and log in with their school username and password. Under the My Info tab, they can see their library materials that are checked out and their fines if they have any.
  • Students may also download the Destiny Discover app to their phones or tablets and check their fines that way as well.
  • We seldom pass out paper fine notices. Students may check their obligations in Destiny.
