Dear Parents & Guardians,
We are looking forward to a full week of learning. Please make sure students bundle up to prevent them from getting sick. The weather shows that there will be rain for multiple days. We ask that you be patient if we have to do "Rainy Day Dismissal," as it changes our procedures and slows down the process. Safety is our number one priority. Thank you for your understanding and support.
See you this Wednesday, January 24 at the PTA Game Night from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Do not miss out!
Have a great week on purpose!

We are learning how to be a Communicator and Collaborator.
SBISD believes that Every Child skillfully conveys thoughts, ideas, knowledge and information and is a receptive and responsive listener. By the end of 5th grade, students will have achieved the following milestones:
Respectfully expresses their thoughts, feelings, needs, and ideas with peers and adults.
Knows that body language and actions are another way to communicate.
Communicates to connect with others.
Pays attention and asks questions to understand what others think and feel.
Collects information to determine the difference between fact and opinion.
Shares their ideas and respects the ideas of others when part of a group.
Respectfully asks questions and thinks about their needs and those of others, offering and accepting suggestions to move forward.
At Terrace Elementary School we support the core characteristics of communication and collaboration by focusing on respectfully expressing our needs with peers and adults, paying attention to the needs of others, and asking questions to understand through Family Time and Guidance Lessons.
Part of working as a team is being honest with each other. That's not always easy. But the benefits of having strong relationships with others and a self-concept rooted in authenticity far outweigh the discomfort that comes from having to stumble through a difficult conversation.
DINNER TALK:
Talk to your kids with open-ended questions. Get them thinking and share your thoughts and experiences.
Why is it important to be honest?
What happens to our relationships when we are dishonest?
Tell a story about a time when you were not honest. What were the consequences?
Tell a story about a time when you were honest even though it was uncomfortable to be truthful. How did this affect your belief in yourself and your relationships?
What would you do if:
you found a brand new iPhone in a bathroom stall at a restaurant?
you broke your grandmother's favorite mug by accident?
your friend was repeatedly teasing you in a way you don't like but you were afraid to tell them to stop?

Lice are a nuisance for any family. Please check your student weekly for evidence of active lice and notify the clinic if they are detected. Head lice has NOTHING to do with hygiene and EVERYTHING to do with exposure. Lice do not jump! Avoiding selfies where heads are touching, sharing hats, helmets, blankets or pillows can greatly decrease exposure. Click on the button below for additional information.

Adequate sleep improves every aspect of our lives from mood, physical health to improved learning! During morning announcements, students will hear some rationale for adequate sleep and tips on establishing a bedtime routine.
Examples:
Sleep makes you smarter! Allowing your brain to have adequate rest allows for processing of information received.
Sleep improves mood and allows for emotional processing as well!
