Zones of Regulation

The Zones of Regulation curriculum is used throughout CFES. These lessons and activities are designed to help kids gain self-regulation skills. Self-regulation can go by many names, such as self-control, self management, emotional regulation, and impulse control.

What are the Zones of Regulation?

The Blue Zone

Moving Slowly

The Green Zone

Ready to Learn

The Yellow Zone

Loss of Some Control


The Red Zone

Out of Control

When we are in the BLUE zone we can be feeling:

  • Sad

  • Tired

  • Bored

  • Sick

When we are in the GREEN zone we can be feeling:

  • Happy

  • Calm

  • Ready to work

  • Focused

When we are in the YELLOW zone we can be feeling:

  • Frustrated

  • Worried

  • Silly

  • Excited

When we are in the RED zone we can be feeling:

  • Mad

  • Angry

  • Elated

  • Terrified
