HAPPY DISABILITY PRIDE MONTH!
Spoons of Salt Nonprofit Organization was Founded in 2023 by Chelsea Matherly and Sarah Rupp.
Following a diagnosis in 2023 of POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome), Chelsea's life changed drastically almost overnight. While in therapy, she learned how to navigate her new normal by carefully pacing her daily tasks. When her therapist suggested joining a support group, Chelsea was thrilled at the prospect of connecting with others who truly understood her reality.
Unfortunately, she couldn’t find a single in-person support group in her area. But Chelsea has always been driven by a passion for helping others. Instead of giving up, she decided to build the community she couldn't find.
That is how Spoons of Salt was born—a safe, inclusive space dedicated to bringing together individuals living with chronic illnesses and invisible disabilities. Named after the pacing of the Spoon Theory and the extra sodium required to fight POTS, we are here to ensure no one has to navigate their journey alone.
Spoons of Salt began as a nonprofit organization specialized in Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS), but once Chelsea and Sarah began to realize how many people were out there with rare disorders, autoimmune disorders, connective tissue disorders, and so many other chronic illnesses that had no community either. Spoons of Salt serves the entire chronic illness community, and we will continue to do so.
