Our Class Behavior System

S.W.A.G. (Students Working to Achieve Goals) TAGS

In no time, your child will be coming home to tell you all about the swag tags that he/she earned at school! So I would like to take this opportunity to explain what they are and how your child can earn them.

Swag tags are incentive tags that your child can earn for positive behavior and choices that he/she makes during the school day. The tags are placed on a lanyard that is kept at school throughout the year. Students have the opportunity to wear their lanyards on Fridays to show the school community all of their hard work and great choices that they have made! Swag tags are not meant to take home, but they will be available for students to take home with them at the end of the school year.

Swag tags are earned when the teacher notices a choice or behavior that is done by a student that exceeds expectations and follows our class promise that we made as a class together (photograph below). Swag tags can be earned for many things. Some of these may include: helping others, being a first-time listener to directions, walking quietly in the hallway, getting right to work, or making the right choice. I strongly believe in positive reinforcement in the classroom and this is a method we will use this year to encourage and promote positive choices and hard work. Check out the image below of where we keep our swag tags in our classroom! Our super second graders have already earned many!

Sincerely,

Miss Murphy

Glow Notes and Grow Notes

Glow Notes and Grow Notes are a way of communicating about your child's behavior in school. Glow notes (yellow) are to tell you about how your child was a glowing student in school that day. Your child may receive a glow note for helping a friend, being a great listener, following directions, or showing respect. Glow notes do not need to be signed or returned to school. They are just a way of telling you at home about your child's awesome behavior in class that day.

Your child may receive a grow note if he/she struggled to allow himself/herself or classmates to grow by using unkind words/actions, disrespecting themselves/their classmates, repeatedly calling out, or not following our classroom rules. Grow notes (red) need to be signed and returned to school the next school day. Everyone makes mistakes, but it is important to learn from them and grow from them. Grow notes are intended to communicate with you at home about behavior your child may need to work to improve upon at school.

I firmly believe in strong communication between home and school and I believe in communicating about the positives as well as the areas we are trying to work to grow in. Glow notes and grow notes will help to keep these lines of communication open.
