Speech-Language Pathologists support students who experience challenges with communication, language, hearing, speech sounds, fluency (stuttering) and oral feeding by:
School-staff collaboration in class-wide programming, strategies and interventions that foster independence and inclusion.
Pre-Kindergarten: collaboration, capacity-building, and student-specific intervention for designated Early Entrance students
Kindergarten: speech & language screening, hearing screening, assessment and intervention (universal and targeted)
Grade 1-3 students: classroom-based support and/or student-specific intervention for:
Moderate to severe speech-sound disorders.
Moderate to severe language disorders.
Other areas of communication (e.g., stuttering, voice, etc.).
K-12 Students with Intensive Supports with complex communication needs:
Augmentative and Alternative Communication modalities [AAC].
Functional communication.
Social Skills.
Supporting equipment needs for students with Hearing Impairments
Supporting students with Swallowing Recommendations and Oral Feeding Procedures.
Complex Behavior/Multidisciplinary Needs: A member of a collaborative team (LSS and school team) to support targeted interventions
Speech Language Pathologists have experience in:
Inclusive practices, focusing on the least restrictive approaches in the student's learning environment.
Student-specific interventions.
Adult learning and professional development for universal strategies (caseload and school needs permitting)
