The following supporting documents can be found on the Ministry of Education website:
Saskatchewan’s HBE program itself does not automatically grant official high school credits — parents cannot simply assign Ministry-recognized credits based on their own instruction.
Home-schooled students can earn Ministry-recognized high school through approved distance-education providers such as the Saskatchewan Distance Learning Centre (Sask DLC); successful completion of these courses results in credits that count toward graduation.
Yes — home-based education students can access Driver’s Education through Prairie Spirit School Division, but you need to register and communicate with the division to do so.
Here’s how it works:
1. Be registered in the Home-Based Education Program
To access any supports (including driver education), your child must be registered with Prairie Spirit School Division’s Home-Based Education program for the school year.
2. Indicate that you want Driver’s Ed support
When you register (or soon after), let the Home-Based Education facilitator know that your child is requesting driver education services. According to provincial policy, school divisions are required to offer driver education to home-based learners in a way similar to school students when requested.
3. Get details from the Home-Based Education facilitator
Prairie Spirit’s Home-Based Education team (often a specific facilitator at the division office) will help you with specifics such as:
Eligibility and age requirements
How and when registration opens for classes
The process for signing up your student for the driver ed program that year
You can contact them directly at the division office (306-683-2830).
