MINISTRY UPDATES:
UPDATE: JAN. 14, 2026
In 2026-27, students enrolled in the new program of study (i.e., SK Regular) are required to complete one 30-level English language arts (ELA) course to graduate. Education organizations may offer any of the following 30-level ELA courses during the transition year:
ELA 30 (2025 Preliminary)
ELA A30
ELA B30
Like-Credit Reminder:
ELA 30 (2025 Preliminary) is considered a like-credit to both ELA A30 and B30. Students cannot combine the renewed ELA 30 (2025 Preliminary) curriculum with ELA A30 or B30. As a result, Grade 12 students in 2026-27 will follow one of the following pathways to meet graduation requirements:
Pathway 1: ELA A10 or B10 → ELA 20 → ELA 30 (2025 Preliminary)
Pathway 2: ELA A10 or B10 → ELA 20 → ELA A30
Pathway 3: ELA A10 or B10 → ELA 20 → ELA B30
Note: Students may still take both ELA A30 and ELA B30 in 2026-27; however, only one counts toward the graduation requirement. The second course counts as an elective.
UPDATE: JAN. 14, 2026
For the 2026-27 school year, the post-secondary ENG 100 (dual credit) will continue to be attached to ELA B30, consistent with the structure used under previous graduation requirements.
Students who wish to enroll in ENG 100 (dual credit) will follow this pathway:
ELA 10 → ELA 20 → ENG 100 (ELA B30 credit attained)
Beginning in the 2027-28 school year, the dual credit (ENG 100) will no longer be attached to ELA B30. Instead, ENG 100 will be attached to a new 30-level ELA elective, currently under development.
2027 and Onward Dual Credit Pathway:
ELA 10 → ELA 20 → ELA 30 → ENG 100 (dual credit 30-level ELA elective attained)
Please note: Students may take ENG 100 before or after ELA 30; however, the dual credit will only be awarded once the student has successfully completed ELA 30, as required for graduation.
Reminder:
Students cannot take ELA 30 (2025 Preliminary) in addition to the ENG 100 dual credit course next year.
By attaching the dual credit to a 30-level elective, rather than the mandatory ELA 30 course, the ministry preserves flexibility in scheduling while ensuring that all students still complete ELA 30 as part of their graduation requirements. This structure enables students to access the dual-credit opportunity either before or after ELA 30, depending on their individual readiness and school timetabling.

PREVIOUS MINISTRY UPDATES:
There have been amendments to the 2024-25 Registrar’s Handbook for School Administrators, Educators and Students Saskatchewan High School Credit Options and the Secondary Level Program Type Requirements documents.
Minor changes were made to provide clarity for the social science requirements for Grade 10 and Grade 12 standing. Please discard any printed copies of the previous versions you may have and use the updated versions in the links provided.

In the 2025-26 school year, education organizations have the option to offer the new English Language Arts (ELA) 10, 20 and 30 curricula and / or the existing ELA A10, B10, 20, A30 and B30 curricula.
The new ELA 10, 20 and 30 are “like-credits” to their counterparts (e.g., the new ELA 10 is a like-credit to both the ELA A10 and ELA B10). Therefore, students cannot take a combination of old and new ELA courses at the same grade level, as they will not earn credits for both. ELA A10 and B10 are not considered to be like-credits; this distinction also applies to the ELA A30 and B30 curricula.
Important: Students under the old graduation requirements in the 2025-26 school year will require both ELA A30 and B30. Therefore, the new ELA 30 should only be offered to students under the new graduation credit requirements.
Please note that the pilot for ELA 30 will be extended into the 2026-27 school year to ensure that educational organizations have the opportunity to provide feedback before full implementation.
