About Señora Clark

I was born and raised in New Jersey, but from a very young age I was exposed to my Puerto Rican culture and heritage through my father's love for his country. Since I was a newborn my father took me to Puerto Rico every year to visit my family and it was through these visits and experiences with my family that I experienced the Boricua pride. Though I grew up in a bilingual home, I didn't feel like I spoke well in Spanish. During my teenage years I had a huge complex about speaking Spanish because I thought I sounded funny so I never tried speaking it (if you feel this way don't worry I get it and we will work together to conquer this fear). It was during middle school that I started to use my Spanish more, since many of my friends' parents only spoke Spanish, so whenever I went to their house I had to speak Spanish to them.

When I went to The College of New Jersey in 2001, I went in as a computer science major, but quickly changed my major when I took my first couple of computer programming classes. I realized that sitting in front of a computer all day wasn't what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I decided that teaching was where my heart was and when trying to figure out what subject to specialize in I asked myself why not study my other love, my culture, Spanish.

I began my career as a Spanish teacher in 2006, at Edison High School. I continued teaching there until 2010. During the 2010-11 school year, I started my career in the Scotch Plains-Fanwood District, teaching Spanish at the elementary level at McGinn. Then in 2013, I moved back up to teach at the high school level and have enjoyed every minute of it.

I consider myself a life-long learner and am always looking for new ideas and ways to bring Spanish to life in a fun way.  I am currently finishing up my masters in ESL and Bilingual Education and became a Google Certified teacher over the summer!

I'm here to continue to foster your love for the Spanish language and culture. I hope that once you take my class you learn to love it as much as I do!
