What does a wrestler need to practice and compete?

1. Athletic Clothing for Practice

   1. Wrestling Shoes for Technique (recommended brands: Asics, Adidas)

   2. Running Shoes for lifting and cardio

   3. Athletic Pants or Shorts

   4. T-shirt or Sweatshirt

   5. Rule of thumb- most skin should be covered to prevent skin infection and skin tears

2. Headgear (recommended brand: cliff keen)

3. Mouthguard

4. Up to date KHSAA Physical on file with the athletic department 

Can Girls Wrestle?

Absolutely! Women's wrestling is the fastest growing sport worldwide. We would love to have a full girl's team. Our assistant coach is a female and she's itching to have her own team of Lady Bears!

Can Middle Schoolers compete with High Schoolers?

There are many Middle School meets out there. However, Middle School student-athletes can be asked to wrestle with the High School if deemed ready to compete at that level. If a wrestler does participate at that level they will receive a Letter, Bar, and Pin for their future Letterman Jacket.

Fun Facts: During the 2021-22 Season, 8th-Grader Riley Burton and 7th-Grader Hunter Gustinis were our first Middle School State Qualifiers.

What ways can I become a Champion?

There are so many ways in the sport:

1. KHSAA Individual

2. KHSAA Individual-Team Title (When you win our team gets points towards this)

3. KYWCA State Duals

4. Lastly, if you complete a season of wrestling you will be a better version of yourself.

Scholarship Opportunities for wrestlers?

YOU BET! There are colleges and universities at every level from NCAA D1, D2, NAIA, and JuCo that offer higher education opportunities.
