Identification Process

Kindergarten through Grade Two:

Classroom teachers use a variety of tools to assess student progress including, but not limited to, DIBELs, Fountas and Pinnell, and Linkit and District Benchmark Assessments. Kindergarten students are also administered the CogAT (Cognitive Abilities Test) in December.

Grade Three:

At the end of grade 2 all students will be administered the CogAT assessment. In addition, any third grade student new to the district will be administered the CogAT in September. Multiple measures are taken into consideration when determining final eligibility for services:

  • CogAT Assessment
  • Linkit Benchmark Assessment Scores Form C Grade 2 Math
  • Linkit Benchmark Assessment Scores Form C Grade 2 ELA
  • Parent/Teacher Nomination Form
  • Report Card Grades

Grade Four:

Any student new to the district will be monitored for eligibility. Any student who was in a G&T program in his/her prior district will be accepted into the G&T program once verifiable data has been provided from the previous district. Multiple measures are taken into consideration when determining final eligibility for services:

  • Link it ELA Form C
  • NJSLA ELA
  • NJSLA Math
  • Parent/Teacher Nomination Form
  • Report Card Grades

Grade Five:

At the end of grade 4, all students will be administered the CogAT assessment. In addition, any student new to the district will be administered the CogAT in September. Multiple measures are taken into consideration when determining final eligibility for services:

  • Age Stanine CogAT scores
  • Linkit Benchmark Assessment Scores Form C Math
  • Linkit Benchmark Assessment Scores Form C ELA
  • NJSLA ELA
  • NJSLA Math
  • Parent/Teacher Nomination Form
  • Report card grades

Grade Six:

Students may be placed into an academically enriched math and/or ELA class. Any student new to the district will be monitored for eligibility based. Any student who was in a G&T program in his/her prior district will be accepted into the G&T program once verifiable data has been provided from the previous district. Multiple measures are taken into consideration when determining final eligibility for services:

Grades Seven & Eight:

Students may qualify to be placed into an academically enriched or honors math and/or ELA class. Any student new to the district will be monitored for eligibility. Any student who was in a G&T program in the prior district will be accepted into the G&T program once verifiable data has been provided from the previous district. Multiple measures are taken into consideration when determining final eligibility for services:

Grades Nine through Twelve:

Students who are identified as eligible can take AP and Honors courses in Math, ELA, Social Studies, Science, Spanish, Business, and Music. Eligibility is based on assessment data, prior grades, and teacher/parent recommendation.
