Guest Lecture on Road Safety and Vulnerable Road Users Successfully Held at SPA Vijayawada
The School of Planning and Architecture, Vijayawada, successfully conducted a guest lecture on April 8, 2025, as part of the M.Plan II Semester elective course on Road Safety and Environment. The session was delivered by Dr. Aninda Bijoy Paul, a distinguished expert serving as Senior Advisor at the International Centre for Automotive Technology (ICAT) and Site Head at the National Institute for Advanced Industrial Management and Training (NIAIMT).
The lecture focused on key aspects of road safety, especially concerning vulnerable road users (VRUs), including pedestrians, cyclists, and two-wheeler riders. Dr. Paul emphasized the importance of inclusive urban design that caters to all road users and presented real-world examples of road safety audits and intervention strategies. The session highlighted:
✅ Classification and needs of vulnerable road user groups
✅ Design-based solutions and preventive safety strategies
✅ Critical role of road safety audits in urban transport planning
The event was not only academically enriching but also bridged the gap between classroom learning and field application, offering students valuable insights into industry practices and challenges in implementing safety measures.
SPA Vijayawada extends its heartfelt thanks to Dr. Prasanth Vardhan (Head of the Department of Planning), Mr. Sandeep Peeke (Lecture Coordinator), and Prof. Dr. Srikonda Ramesh (Director) for their support in facilitating this meaningful academic-industry interaction.
Such engagements reinforce SPA Vijayawada’s commitment to fostering safe, inclusive, and sustainable urban transport systems through knowledge exchange and professional collaboration.
