School of Planning and Architecture Vijayawada Successfully Inaugurates the Five-Day International SPARC Workshop on "Decolonising Climate Adaptive Design: Rethinking Building Energy Optimization"
The School of Planning and Architecture (SPA) Vijayawada successfully inaugurated the five-day International Workshop on "Decolonising Climate Adaptive Design: Rethinking Building Energy Optimization" on 03 August 2026 under the Scheme for Promotion of Academic and Research Collaboration (SPARC), an initiative of the Ministry of Education, Government of India.
The inaugural session witnessed the participation of faculty members, international experts, research scholars, students, and professionals from academia and industry. The workshop aims to promote interdisciplinary learning and knowledge exchange on climate-responsive architecture, sustainable building design, thermal comfort, and building energy optimization through a decolonised and context-sensitive approach.
Addressing the gathering, the dignitaries highlighted the importance of developing innovative and sustainable solutions to contemporary environmental challenges while encouraging participants to actively engage in the technical sessions, discussions, and hands-on learning activities planned throughout the five-day programme.
The workshop features distinguished experts, including Dr. Lakshmi Priya Rajendran and Dr. Pushpa Arabindoo from University College London (UCL), along with eminent academicians from SPA Vijayawada, NIT Hamirpur, and MNIT Jaipur. Participants will gain exposure to advanced building energy simulation, passive design strategies, climate-responsive architecture, retrofit techniques, and policy perspectives through lectures, case studies, practical sessions, and collaborative discussions.
The workshop, scheduled from 03 to 07 August 2026, reflects SPA Vijayawada's continued commitment to fostering international academic collaboration, research excellence, and capacity building in the field of sustainable architecture and climate-adaptive design.
